Make delicious, hot, Belgian style waffles at home with the Andrew James Volcano Waffle Maker machine. This unique electric waffle iron turns waffle making into a fun activity that can be enjoyed by the whole family, and children in particular will love the volcano style bubbling of the batter at the top of the machine! Make traditional waffles served with toffee sauce and ice cream, or get creative with your ingredients and create your own recipes for sweet or savoury waffles. We’ve also got some great waffle recipes for gluten free waffles or vegan waffles, duck and waffles, red velvet waffles as well as the more traditional egg waffles, on our blog.
It’s called a Volcano Waffle Maker because the waffle grill plates are shaped like the cone of a volcano. This shape makes large, round waffles that are about 18cm in diameter and are up to 2cm thick. These unique plates cook your waffle mix from the bottom up so your waffle batter grows up the plates and starts to bubble at the top, just like a volcano ready to explode.
Even though it is a highly innovative product, it is still easy to use. Attach the funnel to the top of your machine and plug it in. You’ll know when it has reached perfect waffle cooking temperature as the green indicator light will switch on.
Next, pour in your thick waffle mix using the measuring scoop provided. This scoop lets you add the perfect amount of batter each time and the easy pour lip prevents spills. Don’t worry about your waffle batter seeping through the base of the machine, there’s a locking clip that keeps the two parts of the waffle maker securely sealed and stops any leaks. We’ve also included non-slip feet to keep your waffle maker safe and still on the worktop during use.
As your waffle starts to cook you’ll see the mix start to bubble at the mouth of the waffle maker in the funnel attachment, just like a bubbling volcano getting ready to erupt. You won’t get a flow of waffle mix down the sides of the waffle maker, the funnel prevents any overflow and lets you see when your waffle is cooked.
The 700W electric waffle maker cooks waffles in under 5 minutes and can reach a maximum temperature of 220 degrees centigrade. But don’t worry about hot fingers, the cool touch handle lets you open your waffle maker safely whilst it is hot. If your waffles feel as if they are sticking a little when you lift the lid, just give them another minute to cook thoroughly. Thanks to the non-stick waffle grill plates your waffles should lift away cleanly when they are properly cooked.
After you’ve finished creating your delicious, homemade waffles, the non-stick plates can be wiped clean using a hot, damp, soft cloth. If there is any residue left around the neck of the machine, where the funnel attaches, use a soft brush to sweep the dry mix out.
When not in use your Volcano Waffle Maker stores neatly away. The funnel can be unclipped from the top and secured into its own purpose created slot under the waffle maker for a slimline, flat profile. You can also wrap the cord around the waffle machine and clip it in to place so your waffle maker fits easily into a cupboard or drawer.

A traditional pancake batter will be a little too thin to make the waffle mix rise up the cone shaped plates, but you can thicken it up by adding a bit more fat, for example coconut oil, as you add in the milk. Our recipe book includes a variety of different techniques for creating waffle batter and there are plenty of recipes online, but you can also have fun inventing your own recipes, mixes and toppings. If you have a great recipe you can share it on our social media channels including Facebook and Instagram.
It depends what you class as thin. The waffles from the Volcano waffle maker are 2cm thick but have the traditional waffle shaped indentations, so the waffles will be thinner at those points.
This home waffle maker can be used by the whole family, and it is great fun to use. As a general guide we recommend that this machine isn’t used by children under the age of 8 because of the use of electricity and the hot metal plates. Older children should be supervised until you are confident that they are comfortable with using the machine.
No. The plates on the volcano waffle maker are fixed into place, but their non-stick surface means they are easy to clean by wiping down with a soft cloth.
This electric waffle maker creates waffle cones that have a flat diameter of 18cm. However, you can tear and share the waffles by easily splitting them into four even sections. Each half of the waffle is comparable in size to the typical waffles you get from a double waffle maker so you can use this waffle making machine to cook for two.
The waffles made in this waffle maker are round and come out like a small cone or waffle bowl. They will naturally flatten out a little after cooking although you can do this manually. Each round waffle can be split into four triangular portions that have a curved rather than heart shaped top end.
Electric waffle makers are very simple to use compared to more traditional waffle irons and pans. They heat up quickly and are completely self contained so you don’t need to move the waffle machine to a stove or hob to cook. The Andrew James Volcano Waffle Maker has a cool touch handle so you won’t burn your fingers when you open the machine, something not guaranteed with the more traditional wooden handles of waffle irons. Another advantage of the Volcano waffle maker is the compact size which makes it easier to store.

The basis of any waffle recipe is flour, eggs and milk, although these items can be changed when you are creating vegan waffles or gluten free versions.
• 200g plain flour
• 2 tsp baking powder
• 3 tbsp. sugar
• ¼ tsp salt
• 300ml milk
• 2 tsp vanilla extract
• 3 tbsp. veg oil
• 1 egg
1. Beat the ingredients together for 30 seconds, don’t worry about lumps they will disappear when cooking. Allow the batter to stand for 1 minute.
2. Fill the scoop to the top and pour into your preheated waffle maker.
3. Pour in the mixture quickly, so that it gathers in the funnel, and gravity will evenly distribute the batter along the plates.
4. Cook the waffle for 3-5 min until the waffle is at the desired level of crispiness.
If the shape of the waffle is not perfect add another 25ml of milk and try again, repeat if necessary.

Tip: If you are making a large number of waffles your cooking time may reduce as your waffle maker gets up to its maximum temperature. You can stack cooked waffles with a piece of kitchen roll between each layer to keep them crispy. They can also be frozen then reheated in a warm oven, although this depends on what type of waffle mix you have used so please check any waffle mix recipe instructions first.
The Andrew James Belgian Style Waffle Mix is the perfect accompaniment to the Volcano Waffle Maker. All you need to do is add the oil to create a scrumptious waffle batter ideal for use in this waffle machine. Each 1kg pack will make up to 10 large waffles, and any unused mix can be sealed and stored for later use.
