The Andrew James Ice Cream Maker is a fantastic gadget perfect for the summer months or even to make delicious homemade ice cream to complement warm desserts in the winter. By making tasty ice cream in your very own home, you can avoid artificial ingredients found in mass-produced ice creams and adapt recipes to create healthy treats and also to cater for particular allergies. This ice cream machine is ideal for when you follow a low-sugar diet.

Unlike many ice cream makers, the machine is very quiet in operation (approx. 60dba) so you can get on with other tasks in your kitchen without being disturbed while your mixture is being frozen. The compact size means that this little machine is easy to store away and bring out whenever you fancy something sweet. You could also impress your friends and family by making your very own ice cream at home.

Pre-freezing the inner bowl takes around 8 hours so we recommend that you pop it in the freezer the night before your ice cream making session. Once you have your bowl ready, making ice cream, sorbet, or frozen yoghurt will take around 20 to 30 minutes. Ingredients should be added gradually through the large funnel and will be churned as they freeze to give a creamy consistency.

Once the ice cream is made, the inner bowl simply lifts out so you can easily serve your tasty creations - or simply pop it in the freezer to save for later.

The inner bowl, mixing paddle, and lid all detach from the machine and can be quickly rinsed under the tap after use.

Can the Andrew James Ice Cream Maker Make Sorbet?

Absolutely. We have included some tasty recipes in the Extra Info tab for your convenience.

Does this Machine Freeze the Ice Cream?

This particular machine requires prefreezing of the inner bowl - which takes around 8 hours - so we recommend that you pop it in the freezer the night before. Once your bowl is frozen, making ice cream, frozen yoghurt, and sorbet takes around 20 to 30 minutes. Our Premium Ice Cream Machine requires no freezing beforehand and is available to shop here.

When you place an order with Andrew James, depending on the item size our dispatch team will allocate the most efficient courier and service.

We aim to dispatch your order within one working day. The cut off time for a 24 hour delivery service is 1pm Monday to Friday. Any order placed after 1pm on a Friday will be dispatched the next working day (usually Monday). The 24 hour delivery service does not deliver on a Saturday or Sunday, please take this into consideration when placing your order.

If an order is placed on a Saturday or Sunday the order will then be dispatched on the next working day.

Please note that when placing your order, you should choose a delivery address where a person will be available to sign for the parcel. If there is no one available to sign for a parcel, the delivery driver will leave a card to let you know a delivery attempt has been made. They will make up to 3 attempts to deliver before holding the parcel at their depot for collection.

Please take the dispatch time into consideration when buying during a UK Bank Holiday period. The Andrew James Warehouse does not dispatch items until the next working day.

You can return an item for a full refund within 30 days of receiving it.

Your item is also covered by a 2 year warranty, and we will replace any faulty items within this period.

Vanilla Ice Cream:

Ingredients:

  • 500ml/1pt Full Fat Milk
  • 125ml/ ¼ Pint Single Cream
  • 5ml/1tsp Vanilla Essence 
  • 150g/6oz Caster Sugar
  • 4 Egg Yolks 

Variations:

  • Chocolate - Omit the cream and replace it with 100g/4oz of plain chocolate that has been melted in a basin over a pan of boiling water. 
  • Nuts - Add 100g/4oz of chopped nuts to the ice cream mix just before serving. 

Strawberry Ice Cream:

Ingredients:

  • 400g/1lb Pipe Strawberries
  • 200ml/8 floz Double Cream
  • 75g/3oz Caster Sugar 
  • ½ Juice of a Lemon

Method:

  1. Puree the strawberries. 
  2. Mix the sugar, cream, and lemon juice into the puree. 
  3. Place the mix in a refrigerator to cool. 
  4. When the mix is cool, pour it into the ice cream maker and mix until it is firm.

Variations:

Strawberries can be substituted for any soft fruit. The sweetness of the mix will depend on the fruit used, so remember to test it for sweetness before freezing. Please note: the length of time that the mix takes to freeze depends on: 

  • The quantity and composition of the mix. The addition of alcohol to the mix will inhibit freezing. 
  • The original temperature of the mix.
  • The room temperature will also affect the mix. 

Raspberry Frozen Yoghurt:

Ingredients:

  • 200ml Fresh Raspberries
  • 50g Caster Sugar
  • 200ml Natural Yoghurt

Method:

  1. Mash the raspberries or puree them.
  2. For a smooth texture, remove the pips by sieving. 
  3. Add the sugar and natural yoghurt and mix together.
  4. Pour the mixture into the freezer bowl with the paddle running. 
  5. Allow it to freeze until the desired consistency is achieved.

Chocolate Mint Ice Cream:

Ingredients:

  • 200ml Skimmed Milk
  • 50g Caster Sugar
  • 200ml Double Cream
  • A Few Drops of Peppermint Extract
  • 50g of Grated Chocolate 

Method:

  1. Place the milk and sugar into a saucepan. 
  2. Place over a low heat and stir until the sugar has dissolved, then leave until cold. Stir the cream and peppermint extract into cooled milk. 
  3. Pour the mixture into a freezer bowl with the paddle running. When the mixture starts to freeze, add the grated chocolate down the chute.
  4. Allow to freeze until the desired consistency is achieved. 

Banana Ice Cream:

Ingredients:

  • 1 Large Ripe Banana 
  • 200ml Skimmed Milk
  • 100ml Double Cream
  • 50g Caster Sugar

Method:

  1. Mash the bananas until smooth.
  2. Mix the milk, double cream, and sugar.
  3. Pour the mixture into the freezer bowl with the paddle running. 
  4. Allow it to freeze until the desired consistency is achieved. 

Lemon Sorbet:

Ingredients:

  • 175g Granulated Sugar
  • 175ml Water
  • ½ Juice from a Medium-Sized Orange 
  • 100ml Lemon Juice
  • ½ Egg White
  1. Place the sugar and water in a saucepan. 
  2. Stir over a low heat until the sugar has dissolved. 
  3. Bring the mixture to the boil and allow to boil for 1 minute. Remove from the heat and allow it to cool.
  4. Add the orange and lemon juice.
  5. Whisk the egg white until almost stiff and then stir into the lemon mixture. Pour the mixture into the freezer bowl with the paddle running. Allow it to freeze until the desired consistency is achieved.
