The Andrew James stainless steel milk jug is the perfect vessel for frothing and foaming milk to accompany your favourite homemade barista style coffees such as lattes and cappuccinos. The milk jug is made from high quality 202 stainless steel with a mirror finish on the outside and a brushed finish interior.
Its heat resistant construction means it is ideal for serving hot milk but works just as well with cold milk or cream. You can also use it to serve gravy and other sauces on your dinner table, making it a brilliant multipurpose accessory for your kitchen. Because it is stainless steel you can easily clean the milk frothing jug either by hand or in the dishwasher.
Why is this milk jug perfect for frothing milk for barista style coffees?
A milk frothing jug is an essential accessory when making barista style coffees such as lattes and cappuccinos. A jug made from stainless steel is preferable to those made with glass as the stainless steel will keep the temperature of the milk consistent and won’t shatter through exposure to heat and pressure.
As you will be using the jug to heat milk up to 70°C, the jug will also become hot which is why the jug features a practical handle to allow you to easily and safely pour your steamed milk without the risk of burning your hands. It also allows for greater control when pouring the milk which is ideal for when you want to create some latte art.
The embossed scale to ensure that you measure out exactly the right amount of milk you need each time to eliminate wastage.
The milk pitcher can be used with a coffee machine with a steam wand or with a handheld milk frother.
Hints for Steaming and Frothing Milk
When frothing or steaming milk the ideal temperature is between 60°C and 70°C (140°F and 158°F). It is very important not to overheat the milk and it should not exceed 70°C as the milk will start to lose its texture and will begin to sour which will also sour the taste of your coffee. It is a good idea to use a thermometer to ensure your milk reaches the desired temperature.
The type of coffee you wish to make will determine whether you need to froth or steam your milk. Cappuccinos are created with frothed milk whereas lattes are created with steamed milk. To froth or steam milk always start with cold milk then follow these instructions:
To froth: Fill the milk pitched one third full with cold milk. Place the steam wand from your espresso machine, or the handheld milk frother into the milk so that the tip is about ½ inch below the surface of the milk. Open the steam valve and keep the tip of the wand near the surface of the milk in order to draw air from the milk’s surface to produce froth.
To steam: Follow the same instructions for frothing milk but you can completely submerge the tip of the steaming wand. Submerging the tip will not draw enough air to create froth which is what is desired from steamed milk.
