Present your food in style with these modern rectangular bamboo serving boards. Each board measures 22 x 15 x 1.5cm and the set of 8 stack neatly together for storage. Their smooth edges and classic design mean they both look great and are extremely practical. Use them as individual serving boards, like a wood plate, for presenting different courses during your dinner party, or fill them with snacks, nibbles and finger food for your buffet party.
Just to address a technicality. Bamboo is actually a grass, albeit a very fast growing and large one. The stems of bamboo have properties very similar to wood which is why it is often called bamboo wood.
These small wooden food serving boards are the perfect accompaniment to our raclettes; use them to both prepare food and to hold your raclette pans off the table. They’re also fantastic for use with Teppanyaki Grills, Chocolate Fountains and even Fondue Sets.
These small wooden serving boards can be used as a chopping board set. They are ideal as individual chopping boards, or for preparing ingredients like onion and garlic where you don’t want those aromas infiltrating the next food you chop. We also think they’d be perfect for barbecues, camping and caravanning trips where space may be limited.
Whilst not completely necessary, seasoning your boards, along with the proper care, can help them perform better and last longer. To season the board use a food grade mineral oil or coconut oil. Don’t use olive oil or other vegetable oils as these can go rancid and actually encourage the growth of bacteria. Take a teaspoon of your seasoning oil and dip a soft cloth into it. Next, rub the cloth across the whole surface of the board, topping up the oil as necessary, and rubbing in the direction of the grain. Apply 2 - 4 coats and allow to dry overnight before use. Re-apply monthly or when the wood is starting to look dry.
Seasoning the board will create a protective seal that helps to repel water, prevent splitting as well as creating a beautiful finish.
It’s best to clean the board immediately after use to prevent any stains or odours from seeping into the wood. Make sure all food waste has been scraped off then wash the surface with a mild soap and warm water. Don’t soak the board as this can lead to warping. Rinse the board under running water and dry well then leave in an upright position to air dry for a few hours before storing.
If you do get stains on the board clean them of using baking soda. Sprinkle the soda over the surface and rub with a damp cloth to form a paste. Let this paste sit for a few minutes then rinse and dry, repeat if necessary. To remove stubborn smells sprinkle the board with salt and rub half a lemon over it, gently squeezing as you do to release the juice.Leave it to penetrate for at least 2 hours then rinse and dry before re-seasoning.
